Jeff Malone

Jeff is an experienced national security professional, having worked in the ADF, private sector, APS, and academia.  In the Australian Army he served in a variety of intelligence, strategic policy, and specialist postings.  For work on ADF information operations (IO) in East Timor in 1999, he was appointed the Chief of Defence Force Fellow for 2003.  Jeff later served as the Office of Transport Security’s Head of Security Analysis (intelligence).  Jeff has taught at multiple universities at the post-graduate level on intelligence, IO, and electronic warfare (EW).

He has published extensively on intelligence, IO and related topics.  He was the lead Australian contributor to two IO textbooks used in US Defense and Intelligence Community courses.  Jeff is a former President – and current Secretary – of the Australian Chapter of the Association of Old Crows (the global EW, cyber warfare, and IO professional association).  He has managed the largest EW conferences in the southern hemisphere and has helped deliver conferences across the Indo-Pacific.

Since 2013 Jeff has worked in the Department of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Group.  In July 2025 he commenced in a program management role to deliver Defence’s innovation, science and technology strategy:  Accelerating Asymmetric Advantage, Delivering More, Together.
