Colonel Paul Baker is the Commander of Joint Training Command, Joint Capabilities Group and a senior leader with broad experience across Defence and Australia’s national security community. Over his career he has worked at the intersection of intelligence, information environments, and capability development, contributing to organisations such as the Office of National Intelligence and the Australian Signals Directorate.
Paul has led diverse teams, shaped major training and capability programs, and worked closely with partners across government. His career has taken him to the Middle East in analytical and advisory roles, and he is also one of Defence’s senior Arabic linguists.
He holds a Master of Military and Defence Studies from ANU, a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from UNSW, and a Diploma in Arabic. Paul is passionate about modernising learning and developing people; driving innovation, collaboration, and future‑focused training across Defence.
